What is LED?

LED is a light emitting diode with a built-in semiconductor circuit. The working principle is based on a cold light narrow-spectrum electroluminescence, which is emitted from the movement of electrical current in the p-n junction of the semiconductor circuit. LED diodes are usually a light source with a narrow angle, which is increased by the form of the optical elements built in the diode. The colour of a LED diode depends on the material used in it.

LED diodes are environmentally friendly, because they do not contain chemical compounds and diodes can be recycled.
LED lamps hardly heat up while in a working state.
Effective working time of LED diodes is between 50000 - 100000 hours (incandescent lamps - only 1000 h).
LED diodes can emit light in different colours. Diodes can also be produced with variable colour shades (RGB diodes).
In comparison to ordinary lamps, LED diodes do not change colour after longer periods of operation (do not turn yellowish), at the end of their lifespan they become dimmer.
Turning off and on the LED lamp does not affect the performance of the diode.
LED diodes are not affected by vibrations or sudden movements.
LED lamps are easy to change, because they are suitable for ordinary lamp fittings.

What are the possible types of application?

Product safety degrees and IP codes?

IP (International Protection) is the internationally accepted marking that characterizes the specific product's degree of safety against the entry of solid bodies and dust (first digit after the letters IP) and against the entry of water (second number after the letters IP).

The first number can have a value of 0 to 6 and has the following meaning:

0 - the least protected (not protected);
1 - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 50 mm;
2 - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 12 mm;
3 - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 2,5 mm;
4 - protected against solid bodies of superior dimensions to 1,0 mm;
5 - protected against solid bodies of inferior dimensions to 1,0 mm;
6 - impenetrable to dust.

The second number can have a value of 1 to 8 and has the following meaning:

1 - protected against the vertical fall of water drops;
2 - protected against water drops with inclination of 75 degrees;
3 - protected against rain;
4 - protected against water sprays from below;
5 - protected against water jets;
6 - protected against big waves;
7 - protected against the effects of immersion;
8 - protected against the effects of submersion.

Thus, IP 44 means that the LED lamp can be used indoors as well as outdoors, but in an environment not too dusty and not subject to strong water sprays or submergence in water.
